Sammi Awuku begs Akufo-Addo to allow NPP hold primaries
The National Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has called on the government to loosen the various restrictions to allow for the party and other political parties to elect their Parliamentary and Presidential candidates.
The President in his ninth address extended the ban on public gatherings to the end of May and this prevents the organization of political activities across the country.
Speaking on Accra-based Happy FM monitored by Ghclues.com, the governing party’s National Organizer begged the government to loosen the restrictions so they can elect their candidates for the 2020 elections.
“We’ve elected candidates for over 106 orphan constituencies and yet to do same for the ones with sitting Members of Parliament (MP). We plead with the government to ease restrictions to enable us to have our primaries.
Some parties like the Convention People’s Party have not even elected their National executives to talk of moving on to elect their parliamentary executives,” he pleaded
Sammi Awuku said the political parties will ensure that they follow the various protocols to ensure the safety of their party members“Because we find ourselves in an outstanding situation, should the government ease restrictions, we will take advantage of it”.
The New Patriotic Party’s Presidential and Parliamentary Elections was scheduled to take place on April 25, 2020, but was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
